About Us

My name is Kevin Heath, and I'm a Ph.D student in the Bioinformatics and Computational Biology (BCB) program at WPI. I do research on bumblebees! My name is Huaming Sun, and I'm a first year Ph.D student in the Bioinformatics and Computational Biology (BCB) program at WPI.

Our Project

Our driving purpose is to gain new insight into the genetic basis of allergy syndromes. In order to acheive this goal, we need new ways of visualizing and exploring existing data sets. While the traditional method of visualizing gene expression is the tried-and-true heatmap, identifying patterns in large heatmaps can be difficult even if you can read the labels.

Our project explores the use of bubble charts as an interactive visualization. Are our bubble charts a valid or better way of visualizing gene expression data? We aim to find out.
